Hola! From Liliana, Julia, and Christian.

Today is day 9 and the last days before departure, only 5 days left! As Líderes del Día, we woke up at 6:00 am and woke everyone up at 6:30 am.

We started our day with breakfast of Gallo Pinto, salchichas en salsa, and bread. We departed at 9:30 am to the community that opened its doors to us. We met a family that is instrumental to the community surrounding us because their farm provides food to the community. They produced water squash, beans, zucchini, cas, and pumpkin. Liliana learned that the work at the farm could be very difficult due to the fact that sometimes, too much rain can cause harm to the produce. Additionally, too little rain can make it difficult to have a bountiful harvest, reducing their income.

After the amazing tour, we visited two families that welcomed us with open arms into their homes. For lunch, we had rice with chicken and chickpeas. After the most delicious meal, we made empanadas with the support of the family. Everyone was so excited to learn how to make them and they got to experience how Costa Ricans cook a meal. We were able to try out the empanadas after they were made, with the option of having them fried or grilled. We also got to hang out with the family afterward and got to learn some things about the culture and cuisine. We said our goodbyes to the families at 3:30 pm and headed to do some errands.

Lastly, we went to a grocery store to get snacks for the picnic we will be having tomorrow on our Free Day! Julia, in addition to being the leader today, is on our Picnic Committee and used that time to gather food and drinks in preparation for it. We are super duper excited to pass the torch to Sebastian and Kennedi who will for sure be great leaders.

Saludos a todo los padres,
Liliana, Julia, and Christian 😎
