Our first academic seminar started our day. We learned about the history of Jinotega and how it relates to the present. We toured the city on foot and immersed ourselves in the sights and sounds of the city. We were invited into the homes of two Jinoteganos who graciously related their families’ histories and shared their thoughts of the present and future of Jinotega. Our supper brought a surprise meal of super-sized hamburgers and to honor our independence day, a colorful and quite delicious cake. Did I mention the cake was topped with sparklers? Well, it was a surprise and a generous recognition of July Foourth presented by Jasmine’s family. We send our love and thoughts to families and friends.
