Hola Global Glimpsers!

It is an exciting time as we all anticipate the trip to the beautiful country of Nicaragua to meet the great people in the community of Matagalpa. The beauty of this experience is that we will have the time necessary to really learn and appreciate what it is like to be a member of this community.

Your trip leaders are two high school teachers from Berkeley High. Gideon Goldman has been a mathematics teacher for over a decade. He loves jazz music, passionately practices the saxophone, and is a really caring human being. John Villavicencio (Mills Alum) has completed ten years of working at BHS, having taught mathematics, physical education, and currently serves as the Director of Student Activities. He loves hip hop and all associated genres, weightlifting, and waking up real early. This adventure will definitely allow us to share in our interests with each other as well as explore new ones in Nicaragua together.

We both understand the value of traveling and will work to ensure that you have the greatest possible experience exploring the country. Buddha has stated, “It is better to travel well than to arrive”.

Once we land, we become ambassadors of hope and wonder. Each person that we meet may provide a new insight and change the way you look at the world. Be open to these new ideas and experiences.

And just for fun, here is a link to some common phrases heard in Nicaragua. Dale pues!

Don’t hesitate to send us any questions before the trip.
