We have arrived!

Hello from El Gueguense Hotel in humid, awesome Managua! After a long day, everyone is already asleep (or at least pretending to be). Huge shout out to all of the parents for getting everyone to the airport by 4am and to the students who maintained such great attitudes and so much enthusiasm despite layovers, getting stuck in customs, and having to make new friends so quickly. So far we have learned that not many of us know Spanish, the Miami airport likes to change your gates without telling you, and that Subway tastes the same anywhere you go. Looking forward to a fun day tomorrow as we leave for our ultimate destination–Matagalpa!

Dear Adelaide – thanks for the update on your trip! Sounds like you had some adventures on Day 1 – just getting to Managua. I am Jodie’s mom and we were so happy to meet you & Lauren yesterday and see that all the students are in capable hands.

Many don’t know much Spanish? No problem; enjoy being surrounded by the sounds of this beautiful language, and have fun gathering a few new words and phrases every day. It’s a great feeling starting to understand some words and realizing, “Hey, I know some Spanish!”

And beyond that … we all know a caring heart can communicate in any language.

Great to hear that everything went well on the trip from SF to Managua. I hope everybody got a good rest after the long trip.Today is Thursday so you all had by now your first day of being in and seeing the town.
