The internet has been weak in San Juan and the delegation has struggled to post regular blogs as a result, however we have provided them with a better mobile internet connection and expect blogs to be posted more regularly in the coming days.

The delegation enjoyed a visit from members of the Global Glimpse board of directors, supportors and donors over the weekend.  They kicked off the visit with a welcome dinner on Friday night with our regular food provider. A local youth cultural group, Juventud Caribe, suprised everyone with typical dances including merengue and palo.  Everyone was dancing by the end of the night and returned to the hotel for a nightly meeting with the delegation and guests.
On Saturday, the delegation and guests experienced one of the most complex and thought-provoking days of the itinerary which explored the relationship between the Global Business of the sugar cane industry and the bateyes.  Students learned about how sugar cane is processed and the working and living conditions of the people who cut it. After sharing lunch with Plataforma Vida, an organization that is run by the people of the bateyes, students listedned to their perspectives of how the industry has changed throughout their lives. The Glimpsers and guests spent more time walking around the bateyes to meet community members and listen to their hopes and challenges.
Yesterday was a fun day at the country club pool and today was politics day at the San Juan City Hall!
The students will be starting their community action project tomorrow, in which they are working on a community play space in a rural community of Sabaneta. You can expect updates on their progress to be posted here!
