Hola Glimpsers!

My name is Erin Holzer, and I’ll be one of your leaders on the trip to Constanza. I hope you’re getting as excited as I am for our upcoming departure date! In the meantime, I wanted to share a little about myself.

I teach English 9, English 11, and AP Literature at Dougherty Valley High School in San Ramon, California. In my free time, I love cooking and baking, watching baseball and basketball, going to Giants games, hiking, traveling, and playing with my two kitties, Petey and Mirah. Expect to hear many cat stories on our trip!

Like you, this is my first year with Global Glimpse. I joined this program so that I can step outside my comfort zone as both a teacher and a traveler. By the time we leave Constanza, I’m hoping to be a more courageous, empathetic individual committed to global citizenship.

One thing I’m doing to prepare for the trip is reading lots about the Dominican Republic. If you can only read one book before our trip, I recommend In The Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez. This novel (based on a true story) follows the lives of four sisters during the Trujillo regime. The story is captivating, and for a few chapters, it’s even set in Constanza!

Before we leave, please be sure to introduce yourself on the blog. Share where you’re from, your interests, and something you’re most excited and/or nervous about for the trip!

Hasta Luego!
